Super Slatko Report

In this edition of the SSR, DJ Moe will take us for a walk with goats and a bucket. In all seriousness, today we’ll learn about some world famous Croatian Goat Cheese! Yummy!

Aleš Winkler, a Slovenian who owned a vacation home in Istria that he decided to one day make his permanent residence. Winkler was a leading real estate lawyer from Llublanja, the capital of Slovenia. He uprooted himself and family to live full time at their vacation home 30 minutes outside of Pula.

He at first only wanted 30 goats to keep his lawn mowed, but then was up to 100 to keep help him manage his vast property. A neighbor told him that those goats needed milking. This much Goat milk not being the easiest sell in town, he decided to try his hand at making cheese. So he ordered books and taught himself.

Several years later he is one of the, if not the best goat cheese producer in the world. 

The farm is a family owned producer Of ecological unpasteurized goat cheese.

A lot of the success having to do with the ability to make the cheese, but also a good deal to do with what the goats consume to produce such amazing offerings. These goats graze 365 days a year on 180 local organic wild herbs. 

The farm is called Kumparicka, and it offers tours that include: cheese making, goat keeping, wine & cheese tasting, and a restaurant you have to read about for yourself, also a large party  room. Where I’m not too sure if you rent it as a party space or if you are joining an existing party that they are constantly having.

Another place to add to your Croatian bucket list.
