Let’s talk Croatian winter...
Along the coast line you typically run into a mild winters, usually not going below 41 degrees Fahrenheit. If things dip lower than that during the winter, it’s considered really uncommon.
But in the interior of Croatia towards the north, temps will often fall below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. In those places, Snow is very likely and can be heavy in some places.
Despite these cold temps, there are still plenty of things to do if you find yourself in Croatia during the winter.
Advent Christmas Markets, that run all the way through Jan 6th! With the most famous market being in Zagreb
New Years in Dubrovnik! Dubrovnik is along the coastline, so temps wont be too bad and pair that with the celebration that happens every year there in one of the most picturesque places in all of Croatia, sounds like a winning combination.
It’s also harvesting season! Starting in September and on through most of the winter, the markets are flush with delicious local options that will blow you away with both color and flavor. Mandarinas are a big must!
Croatian Skiing! During the winter there is usually snow on the mountains.
Mount Sljeme near Zagreb offers 4 ski runs, has 2 ski lifts and a triple chair lift
Bjelolasica offers another option at the Croatian Olympic Center, they rely a little on the artificial stuff, but still fun
Platak outside of Rijeka, boasts 7 ski runs and a 10km cross country skiing trail.
Also these fun ski & snowboarding options are considered to be pretty affordable when compared to other options in neighboring European countries.
You can also Visit the Frozen waterfalls of Plitvice, if you thought they looked awesome in the summer, check out how cool they look in the winter! Lol.
If you get chilly don’t forget to turn up the heat with a soak in one of the many hot springs. High end Spas have been built around them now, but these springs have been in use since Roman times.
And the last thing that is worth noting for visiting Croatia in the winter, Croatia can be a very busy place during the summer, so if you go during the winter you will be avoiding all the crowds.
Walk the walls of Dubrovnik without the blistering summer sun
Go to one of the many museums in zagreb without all the lines
Not to mention you’ll get to see what the locals do with out all the tourists around...
